15th Prozac Update - Feeling Fair

May 12, 2026··
taper update
Feeling fair. Should I first drop 40% of depakote then 50% of it some weeks later, or the other way around, 50% then 40%? Does depakote ever give that many withdrawals as is the case with benzos and AD's?

Wolf’s taper progress

Dose (mg)
Mood (/10)

Prozac — 40 mg — 6 months — holding | Zyprexa — 20 mg — 6 years — holding | Depakote — 600 mg — 8 months — **tapering** | Buspirone — 20 mg — 8 months — holding | with clinician

It's hard to say for sure. Either one is a pretty large reduction. Starting bigger and then ending smaller is more of a Hyperbolic taper, but it's hard to say how you're going to react to it. Maybe some other members can add their own two cents. Regarding Depakote, from what I understand it's not as notorious for causing as severe withdrawal symptoms as antidepressants or benzos, but it still requires tapering to avert any potential issues.

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.92 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Levothyroxine - 25 mcg

Sadly i also don‘t have much information. If you also use it for seizures, i would suggest you go slower and see how you react. Neither 40% or 50% are small drops. Indeed, tapering Lamotrigine (also anticonvulsant, mood stabilising in regard of depressive episodes, it says depakote is anticonvulsant and more for manic episodes) with 50% drops were unproblematic with me, but this is hard to compare, so be careful 😊

off Stimulants (2000-2013)
off Fluoxetine (2010-2013)
off Lamotrigine (2013-2016)
off Quetiapain (2016-2020)
