2nd Abilify Update - Just reduced to 10mg !

Feeling mostly good. This is my final reduction of Abilify before preparing to taper Olanzapine again. Will update of how I feel in coming weeks.

Of course. Keep in mind there is a balance of activation and sedation and this is something to discuss with your clinician if you experience activation or sedation on these meds.

Thank you for you concern Wolf. Im lucky to know much more than my prescriber and glad this time its in my hands. I see you are holding Zyprexa at 20mg Im currently on 7.5mg from 30mg holding right now also and was actively tapering since 2024. How is your taper going ? It seems you are on many drugs. @Based Psychiatrist Thanks ! Tapering olanzapine by pill cutting from 30mg until 10mg was easy. After reducing to 7.5mg I noticed that with certainty I have to advance my taper plans and say goodbye to splitting tablets and go hyperbolic route. I then decided to begin tapering Abilify from 25mg to 10mg as I felt I had to because of side effects and also as Olanzapine is full blocker, whenever I reduced Olanzapine I felt more impulsive as if Abilify started doing more negative work. Now at 7.5mg olanzapine and Abilify 10mg I will taper to 0mg Olanzapine because it has extreme sedation making me disabled in every way also metabolic health / gained 25kg and overall I believe I was given the worst antipsychotic on top of Abilify and one of the hardest to taper. Wish me luck ! Im sure it will be needed.🙂

I never experience any adverse effects from Olanzapine (almost never) so I do not mind holding 20 mg and waiting for its turn to taper. I know it is not that little of a dose but I do not mind it anyway.

There is a chance Olanzapine is giving me elevated lipids and some fatty liver, so I will be cutting it to 15 mg or less.

So, if you took Olanzapine for a while, you may want to check your cholesterol and triglicerydes. It wouldn't hurt to do a routine ultrasound of the liver or a fibroscan to take a look at your liver.

@Wolf Thanks for all suggestions ! I checked cholesterol etc a year ago. Ultrasound is a good idea too ! 👍

yep, four drugs may be the limit beyond which we would go into unreasonable amount.

Goodluck! I'm also going to start my aripiprazole taper from 10mg and don't forget to check out the blogs.

- Risperidone 1mg - 2months
- Prozac - 9 days (adverse reaction)
- Abilify - 15mg -> 10mg -> 7.5mg -> 5mg - 9 months - actively tapering
- Procyclidine 5mg - 9 months - actively tapering
- Propranolol - 20mg - 1 year - holding
- Xanax - 0.25mg - 7 months - holding
